Should I say "I love you" back to her?

I have a very sweet friend. We have not known each other very long, but we get along wonderfully. We talk about very private stuff a lot. Some times in our emails she'll say, "I love you". I do love her as a friend, but I'm not sure if I should say it back. I don't want to give her the wrong impression, or hurt her feelings.
