How do I get rid of that awful burnt smell in my dishwasher?

I was trying to disinfect a green scour sponge in the dishwasher, but it fell on that thing that gets really really hot and burned! I've run the dishwasher over and over, but that smell is sticking to the dishes. Now I have to (gasp) hand wash them....help!
